In the 2000s Luthercare made many decisions that would have long-term positive impacts and provide greater support for residents.
At Luther Acres, the year 2000 saw the dedication of Agape Way, which provides a safe and secure environment for those facing the challenges of Alzheimer’s and other memory impairments. The year also saw the dedication of Personal Care apartments in the Muhlenberg Building, which further diversified support available to residents . An additional benefit was added with the introduction of new physical therapy and activity spaces. Later, in 2005 residents would be able to maintain a healthier, more active lifestyle with the dedication of our community Wellness Center- which includes an exercise room, aerobics studio, and a pool.
In 2001 St. John’s Herr Estate marked their 10-year anniversary with a huge party. Later that year, the community would grow with the addition of 12 new independent living cottages. In the latter half of the 2000s, renovations to the common area and dining room gave everyone at our Columbia community a fresh space to enjoy and gather in. The following year, renovations to the Personal Care apartments would provide additional comfort for residents with private showers and tea kitchens.
At Spang Crest, Luthercare saw increasing demand for comfortable accommodations for residents with memory loss, as well as rehabilitative services. To meet the need, The Willis R. And Helen M. Christman Memory Center was constructed, adding 18 personal care beds, a new rehabilitation and therapy gym, a kitchen, dining room, and more to the community. In 2008, an outdoor recreation and patio area gave residents a new space to take in the fresh air and sunshine.
