For 15 years, Conny has been a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Luther Acres Healthcare Center, most recently in the memory care wing. Like many nurses across the country, working on the frontlines of the pandemic had taken its toll, and she was feeling fatigued by the COVID-19 experience. At the end of 2020, Conny needed a change from the long-term care environment and resigned her full-time position to become a casual (as-needed) team member. But only two months later, Conny returned to her job at Luther Acres. In stepping back, she realized how much she missed the residents, her colleagues, and the opportunity to help others through her work.
Luther Acres, Conny says, is a “great place to work, with positive attitudes and easy-to-approach interdisciplinary team.” She appreciates the flexibility offered here, and now works in a float position where some of her responsibilities include supervising nursing assistants, administering medication, and giving various treatments to residents.
